White Embroidered Omani Thobe, front view showing gold-tone embroidery and tassel.

How to choose your first thobe

A first thobe is easier to choose when you separate its style from its fit. Begin with where you want to wear it, then compare a few garments side by side. A similar colour does not mean two thobes have the same cut, pockets or size system.

Compare four visible details

  • Neckline: compare a stand collar, a rounded opening and a zip neckline.
  • Sleeves: choose between long sleeves and the loose short sleeves of our gandouras.
  • Decoration: contrast embroidery draws attention to the neckline and cuffs; tonal stitching is more understated.
  • Hood: check whether you want a hooded garment and how it sits at the back.

Use real examples

Compare our Royal Omani thobes with Everyday Omani thobes. For a different silhouette, look at the short-sleeved gandouras and hooded djellabas in the Moroccan thobes collection. Our white Saudi thobe has a stand collar and chest pocket, which gives its front a different appearance.

Choose the size last

Once you have chosen a style, use its own options and the thobe size guide. Do not carry an Omani size number across to a lettered Moroccan size. Check the garment’s chest, shoulders, sleeves and length where measurements are provided.

When it arrives, try it with your intended footwear and move naturally before deciding on the fit. Read the care label before washing and review the store’s returns information before removing tags.
